Animal Licensing

Licensing your pet

All dogs and cats over the age of 6 months must be registered and licensed with the Town of Legal. A tag will immediately identify your dog if it is found at large.

Licenses can be purchased at the Town Office (5021 50 St), Monday - Friday (8:30am-12:00pm and 12:30pm-4:30pm). Licenses are due annually and must be obtained on or before February 15th of each year.

What do I do if I've lost my pet?

If your cat or dog has gone missing, please contact the Town of Legal Office at 780-961-3773.

What do I do if I’ve found a lost pet?

If you have found a lost pet, please contact the Town of Legal Office at 780-961-3773 as soon as possible. If the animal has been found after regular office hours (Monday – Friday, 8:30am-12:00pm and 12:30pm-4:30pm), please contact the office the following morning.

Rules you need to know:

  • The regulations for Animal Control in the Town of Legal are outlined in the Animal Control Bylaw #01-2006
  • All domestic pets, as defined in the Animal Control Bylaw, must be registered and licensed with the Town of Legal
  • No pet is allowed to run at large. All animals must be leashed and under the control of a responsible person
  • A household is not permitted more than three (3) registered and licensed animals at one time
  • Infractions of these regulations can result in a fine(s)
