JANITORIAL (PART-TIME)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Individual shall duly perform the following tasks:
Under the direction of the Finance Officer, the Janitor is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the Citadel Centre as well as the Town of Legal Municipal Office. The Citadel Centre includes the meeting room, kitchen, washrooms, and hallway. The Municipal Building includes all areas. Duties include cleaning and disinfecting all areas, cleaning flooring and carpets, emptying trash, sanitizing washroom, and ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
WEEKLY RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Cleaning:
- Empty all Waste Baskets and general recycling bin by shredder
- Wipe/dust and polish furniture, desks, tables, counters
- Spot wash walls, and fixtures, as needed
- Wipe/Disinfect all telephones
- Clean light fixtures and ceiling fans, as needed
- Wipe and sanitize doors, door handles, fixtures, and all touch points
- Dust wall mount pictures or fixtures, top of door and window frames, as needed
- Move cabinets, boxes, furniture to clean areas (within reason)
Windows/Glass:
- Clean glass partition at reception area
- Spot-clean all glass surface areas, as needed
- Wipe and sanitize blinds, as needed
- Wipe and sanitize all interior office area windows
- Wash all interior office area windows (to be done twice annually)
Flooring:
- Clean all building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
- Vacuum carpet surfaces
- Spot clean and wash as required baseboards/plastic runners
Kitchen and Staff Lunchroom
- Wash and sanitize counters, tabletop, microwave and exterior of cupboards
- Wipe down Coffee Bar and wash coffee pot
- Sanitize and clean sink
- Ensure dishes are cleaned and put in cupboard, as needed
- Wipe down and clean top of Fridge, as needed
- Wash inside cupboards and inside Fridge, as needed
Washroom
- Clean and disinfect toilet, sink, countertop
- Empty trashcan
- Clean mirror
- Cupboard (under sink) wiped down, as needed
- Ensure aerosol freshener is maintained
- Ensure paper towel holder is stocked
- Clean and disinfect around toilet paper holder, doors and door handles
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work independently using the OK Alone App provided by the Town of Legal
- Understanding & respectful of health and safety regulations
- Ability to keep an organized record of cleaning supply inventory
- Great communication and problem-solving skills
- Follow regular cleaning and maintenance schedules
- Ability to climb ladder, bend and kneel and do light lifting
- Reliable, dependable & trustworthy
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners
- Maintain supply cabinet and ensure proper storage, handling, and safety of cleaning supplies
- Manage time and priorities, detail oriented, accountable
- WHMIS training required
Hours of work will be as follows:
5 hours per week, to be completed during the hours of Fridays at 5:00pm to Sundays at 9:00pm, pending bookings at the Municipal Office and Citadel Centre.
A police background criminal record check and a driver’s abstract will be required. Employee is required to follow the Occupational & Health Act as well as wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for this position. There is moderate risk of injury with the position therefore planned safety precautions should be always taken. There may be moderate to heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling at times.
