Waste Management

The Town of Legal hosts a large item pickup twice a year (spring and fall), allowing residents to put out large items they no longer need, that someone else might be able to make use of. All leftover items are then brought to the landfill for disposal by GFL.

This year's Spring Large Item Pickup (Clean-Up) is:

TUESDAY, JUNE 3, 2025
Collection begins at 7:00am!

Be sure to have all items out for collection by end of day Monday, June 2. Pre-registration is not required, unless items for collection contain Freon.

Special Notes:

• All large items are to be put out at the front of your property for collection (no back alley collection)
• All items must be less than 6ft by 3ft (1.8m x 0.9m) and weigh less than 200lbs (90kg)

Some examples of acceptable items for collection include Stoves, BBQ's (no tanks), Washers & Dryers, Lawnmowers (all fluids drained), Mattresses & Boxsprings, Rain Barrels, Furniture, Snowblowers (all fluids drained), Sinks, Lawn furniture, Toilets, Wheelbarrows, etc

RV Fridges & Freon bearing appliances require $20 disposal fee payable prior to pickup. Contact the Town Office to register and pay for Freon Pickup.

The following will not be collected by GFL or the Town and is the responsibility of the Homeowner:

Agricultural chemical containers, liquids, paint, sewage/septic tanks, hazardous waste, toxic waste, chemical or chemical waste, radioactive waste, oil & filters, tires & rims, vehicle hulks, antifreeze, asbestos, tar, drums, batteries, animal waste

Reminder! The Roseridge Landfill RESIDENTIAL Disposal Permit is a permanent card for your property. New cards will not be issued each year - be sure to keep your card!

All issued cards will become inactive December 31 each year. To reactivate your residential disposal permit, please contact the Town of Legal Municipal Office.

The Roseridge Landfill is located at 55515 RR251, Sturgeon County, Alberta.

Residential Landfill Permits

The fee for the Roseridge Residential Landfill permit is $5.00 which allows up to 1,000kg of waste disposal. The Landfill permit issued is for the Calendar year (January 1^st to December 31^st) and are reactivated each year with a fee.

The Landfill Permit card that you will receive is a permanent card for the property, that will require to be reactivated each calendar year. Be advised, a new landfill permit card will not be issued each year.

As per Bylaw #08-2024, the overage fees for 2025 for excess weight being brought to the Roseridge Landfill are as follows:

• Weights totaling between 1,001kg and 2,500kg will be charged $44.19 per 1,000kg on the utility bill in January 2026 as a “Landfill Overage” charge.
• All weights in excess of 2,501kg will be charged fees as specified by Roseridge Waste Management Services Commission. Fees will be charged directly to user by Roseridge Waste Management Services Commission on location at waste disposal site at time of waste disposal.

Freon extraction charges are $20.00.
