Credit Card Online Payments
The Town of Legal is now accepting online payments with select credit cards through the secure OptionPay System (applicable third party fees apply).
Please keep in mind that transactions take a minimum of 3 days to process. If your penalty date is within those 3 days, you will be charged penalties (if applicable).

What is Option Pay?
Through OptionPay, our third-party payment processor, for a nominal processing fee you can make card payment through our website using the "Online Bill Payments" link, on your smart phone by scanning the QR Code (For smartphones - auto-fill and new card scanning options available in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari Web Browsers) via phone to the finance group and in our municipal office. All processing fees are charged by OptionPay and are not received by the Municipality.
Utilizing OptionPay enables our Municipality to keep our overall payment acceptance processing costs down yet provide individual residents to utilize their credit/debit card for payment of municipal bills/services.
Currently, for our Municipality, the following bill types can be paid through OptionPay:
- Property Taxes
- Utilities
All payments will be received by the Municipality within 48 business hours, so please be sure to allow this processing time when making your payment. Also ensure to know your daily and/or transaction processing limit when making credit card payments.
Credit card Rewards are earned on entire purchase, including fees.

What is OptionPay?
OptionPay is a payment card system the Town of Legal uses for online credit card transactions. You can find out more information about OptionPay by visiting their website here.
Is there an added fee for using OptionPay to pay my Town of Legal bills with my credit card?
Yes. All transactions carried out through OptionPay follow a tiered fee schedule, starting at a minimum fee of $2.00. To see the full fee schedule for using this payment option, please visit their fee schedule here.
Why is there an added fee to pay with a credit card?
The fees are administered through the OptionPay program for the use of the service and not through the Town of Legal.
Is my credit card/information secure with this program?
OptionPay provides information on their security measures here. Please note that the Town of Legal takes no responsibility for, and accepts no liability, in the event of security breaches, technical difficulties, or other issues that may arise from your use of OptionPay. All users accept responsibility for their use of this service and do so at their own risk.

Services Currently Offered on OptionPay
Water Utility Bill Payments
In order to pay your water utility bill using OptionPay, you need the ACCOUNT NUMBER. This can be found on your utility bill in the upper left, above the account name and mailing address. If you have questions about your water utility bill, please contact reception@legal.ca or call 780-961-3773.
Property Tax Payments
You will be asked for your ROLL NUMBER when entering payment information for your property taxes. This can be found on your tax notice. If you have questions about your property tax notice please email reception@legal.ca or call 780-961-3773.
